CONNECTICUT OR BURST
SPIRIT OF ADVENTURE: OR JUST STUPID?
In 1982 Terri and I traveled from Southern California
to Connecticut in our 1978 Chevy Chevette.
It may not look like much, but we packed 1000 lbs into this car and
drove it cross-country.
The trip, at 50 mph, took us 5.5 days. We stopped over-night twice;
driving the rest of the time.
Our longest leg of the trip? LA to Eastern Ohio. 36 hours non-stop. We
did this with one driver.
We traveled through the Colorado Mountains (2nd gear all the way up, and
3rd gear all the way down).

The suspension under the car normally traveled about 6
inches; in this case, 1 inch (bottomed out constantly).
You must add to the car a suitcase which we strapped to the back, on the
bike rack.
27 miles per gallon (which became the normal mileage for this car after
the trip - something stuck I guess). |
